I know I always get ahead of myself when it comes to the weather getting warmer and my idea that summer is actually here. Besides the fact that summer brings longer days, bbq’s and days at the lake, I also get excited to take my training outdoors.
So, to keep you fitness plan and training from getting stale, I’d like to recommend just a few options to step away from the treadmill, find a new change of scenery and add a new twist to your workouts to keep them fresh, interesting and effective.
Run some hills – It’s a workout for the most successful athletes in the world. It’s a great HIIT option, is excellent for strength training and can do wonders to tighten your butt. Sprint frontwards, backwards, lunge up the hill and even do side steps.
Bootcamp – Bootcamps have exploded in popularity and I’ve even run them myself. They are a lot of fun in the summer months and we do a number of different exercises that focus on cardio and strength in a challenging way using bodyweight exercises and even simple equipment.
Strength train outside – Your workout may be a little different than the type of strength training workout you’d do in the gym, but grab some dumbbells you can easily transport and find a comfortable place outside and enjoy the outdoors while you workout. Include some walking lunges, pushups and core exercises and you’ll enjoy the summer months while sticking to your fitness plan.
Changing your workouts with the changing seasons will not only keep you interested in your fitness program, but it will also help you see better results by continuing to challenge your body. Besides, who doesn’t want to be outside when the weather is nice.

I love exercising outside whenever the weather is good! This time of year, it’s so nice to be outside and not always stuck in a gym!
